Ya’an is a city within the province Sichuan, where has always been important in the history of tea in China. The main reason for that is because of its location, it connects Tibet and China and was the starting point of the famous “Tea-Horse-Road”. Ya’an is an important tea production area, from where many different categories of teas, including green tea, yellow tea, dark tea (hei cha) and black tea, are being produced here.

Among all the tea categories that are produced in Ya’an, Black tea exists for the shortest time with only roughly 100 years of history. Moreover, it didn’t get developed until the 1950s and became one of the important export goods. This Ya’an Gongfu Hong was harvested between 600 – 1000m and offers very complex aromas, such as ginger, salty caramel, cream, woodiness and extremely smooth in the mouth.
